Taranga, a Kannada weekly from Manipal, published the following on January 26, 1992 –

“Youth leader Narendra Modi, who is under 40, is credited with the BJP party’s remarkable success in Gujarat. But his identity has always been that of the RSS.

He rose to prominence as a student when he answered Jayaprakash’s call for the Gujarat Nav Nirman movement in 1974.

Even though his job description is that of a regional organizer, Modi, an engineering graduate, is well-known for his oratory skills and his mobilisation capacity.

Modi, a bachelor who has devoted his life to improving society, is the party’s national general secretary at the moment.

He was instrumental in planning and carrying out the Rashtriya Ekatha Yatra.”
