Homeowners nationwide reported sudden policy cancellations after insurers captured aerial images with drones, manned planes, and high-altitude balloons, revealing issues like debris, drained pools, or moss on roofs.

One Malden resident, who owned his home for over 40 years, was blindsided by his insurer’s demand for expensive repairs, only to have his policy canceled despite compliance.

Consumer advocate Emily Rogan notes this practice is growing, with more satellite and drone inspections becoming commonplace post-COVID.
