Lieutenant General Sergey Kisel, commander of Russian forces in Syria, has been dismissed following the dramatic rebel capture of Aleppo.

Syrian forces suffered heavy losses as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham seized Aleppo Airport, the governor’s HQ, and the Umayyad Mosque in their boldest offensive since 2016.

🚨🇸🇾STATEMENT: SYRIAN REVOLUTIONARY FORCES LAUNCH “REPELLING AGGRESSION” OPERATION

“The Syrian people have endured years of the horrific crimes of the Assad regime and its militias, leading to unbearable suffering, pain, and wounds.

Despite international efforts, the bleeding of Syrian blood has not stopped, and the systematic oppression has not ceased.

Therefore, the military forces have had to act to halt aggression, protect our land, and defend innocent civilians.

This effort has resulted in the launching of blessed military operations under the banner of “Repelling Aggression.”

Following the collapse of Assad’s and Iranian militias and their inability to confront the strikes of the revolution’s fighters, their media machine began spreading lies and propaganda to influence global public opinion by falsely accusing the revolutionary factions of receiving external support.

We, in the Department of Political Affairs, categorically deny these claims.

We confirm that this battle was launched solely in defense of the oppressed on our land.

It is a battle for justice and dignity, aimed at countering Assad’s crimes and the armed militias’ use of heavy weaponry against their own people a precedent that history has rarely witnessed.

The international community must recognize that Assad’s regime is the primary hub for drug trafficking, crimes, and chaos in the region. It continues to reject any political solution to the Syrian crisis and persists in its flagrant violations of human rights and disregard for Syrians’ demands for freedom and dignity.

Therefore, we call upon global media outlets, human rights organizations, and journalists to address the Syrian issue with professionalism and objectivity.

They must amplify the voices of the Syrian people, stand with their rights, and expose the truth about the damage caused by the Assad regime and its allied militias.

The Syrian revolution will persist as a beacon fueled by the blood of heroes, the tears of mothers, and the prayers of the elderly.”
