Lloyd Austin stated that the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar offers an “extraordinary opportunity” for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.

Speaking at a NATO press briefing in Brussels, Austin called Sinwar’s death a “major achievement” and highlighted that Sinwar had long obstructed peace efforts between Israelis and Palestinians.

Austin emphasized that his elimination is a step towards justice and stability.
