The Biden administration has slapped sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili, the billionaire founder of Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party, for cozying up to Russia and “undermining democracy.”

Ivanishvili, who made his fortune in Russia and briefly served as Georgia’s prime minister, now faces asset freezes, travel bans, and restrictions on his family.

The U.S. blasted his party’s “violent repression” of protesters, journalists, and opposition leaders.

Critics say Georgian Dream is more of a nightmare.

Under Ivanishvili’s leadership, they passed Kremlin-style laws that tanked Georgia’s EU membership hopes.

After suspending EU talks for four years last month, protests erupted—again.
