🇺🇸🇲🇽 U.S. HALTS MEXICAN CATTLE IMPORTS OVER SCREWWORM OUTBREAK

The U.S. temporarily stopped importing Mexican cattle after New World screwworm (NWS) was found in Chiapas near the Guatemala border.

NWS maggots invade open wounds, feeding on live flesh, and can harm livestock and humans.

The USDA and Mexico’s veterinary officials are implementing control measures to stop the spread, urging farmers to monitor livestock and report cases.

Other exports remain unaffected, and both countries are working to resume cattle trade quickly.
