The Seikan Tunnel in Japan is one of the greatest feats of modern engineering, connecting the islands of Honshu and Hokkaido beneath the Tsugaru Strait.
With a total length of 33.46 miles (53.85 km) , and 14.5miles (23.3 km) of which are underwater, it holds the title of the longest submarine tunnel in the world. Opened in 1988, the Seikan Tunnel not only facilitates transport between the islands but is also designed to withstand earthquakes and tsunamis, showcasing the advanced level of Japanese engineering.
