The Israeli occupation informed the

Relief & Works Agency for Palestine Refugees that it will no longer agree to send UNRWA food convoys to the northern Gaza Strip, which is suffering from a worsening hunger crisis.

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said, in a post on the “X” platform, that as of today, UNRWA, the main lifeline for Palestinian refugees, is prohibited from providing life-saving assistance to northern Gaza.

Lazzarini added, “Despite the tragedy unfolding before our eyes, the Israeli occupation informed the United Nations that it will no longer agree to send agency food convoys to northern Gaza.”

He stated that the Israeli decision is disgraceful and confirms the deliberate obstruction of life-saving assistance amid a man-made famine, demanding that these restrictions be lifted.

The Commissioner-General of UNRWA pointed out that the international agency is the largest organization with the greatest reach to the displaced communities in Gaza, and by preventing UNRWA from fulfilling its mandate in Gaza, the clock will tick faster towards famine, and a much larger number will die from hunger, drought and shortages. “Shelter, this cannot happen. It will only tarnish our collective humanity.”

In this context, US Democratic Representative Alexandria Cortez said on Sunday that the occupation is deliberately causing famine in the Gaza Strip, and that targeting the resistance “does not justify collective punishment and forcing people to eat grass.”

Cortez accused the Israeli occupation of deliberately causing famine in Gaza, with the acknowledgement of governments and employees of the US State Department, stressing that the forced famine in Gaza is greater than our ability to deny or justify.

The Democratic representative explained that what the occupation forces are deliberately obstructing the delivery of aid in Gaza is horrific and that Americans must realize that starving a million people, half of whom are children, does not target Hamas, pointing out that the occupation’s “excuses” are not consistent with what the organizations are saying.
