MIT physicists propose that “early dark energy,” a brief force present in the universe’s first moments, could solve two major puzzles: the “Hubble tension” regarding the universe’s expansion rate and the unexpected abundance of bright galaxies detected by the James Webb Space Telescope.

Their study shows that early dark energy may have accelerated the universe’s expansion, forming more large, bright galaxies sooner than standard models predict.

The findings suggest a unified solution to these cosmic puzzles, pending further validation from ongoing observations.
