The case is over a new California law barring school districts from having to notify parents of their child’s gender identity change.

The Southern California school district argues parents have a constitutional right to be informed about their children’s activities.

Newsom’s spokesperson called the suit “deeply unserious,” defending the law as preserving the child-parent relationship and supporting transgender student safety at school.
