Liberal cabinet minister Karina Gould has officially announced her bid to succeed Trudeau as leader of the ruling Liberal Party.

At 37 years old, Gould currently serves as House Leader, responsible for managing government legislation in Parliament. She now joins former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland and ex-Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney in the leadership race.

Trudeau, under mounting pressure from poor poll numbers, announced on January 6 that he will step down after more than 9 years in power. The new leader is set to be chosen on March 9.
