Signs of possible evacuation at Russia’s Khmeimim Air Base in Syria. Multiple airlifters have arrived at the base. 3 IL-76s and 1 AN-124. The An-72 is usually forward based there. There also appears to be a Su-24 on the runway. Major uptick in airlifted presence. Expect more.

HTS promised that it would protect Shiite minorities and religious sites and asked Iran not to fight its forces. Iran requested safe passage of its troops out of Syria and to protect the Shia shrines, per NYT.

Leaders of the Assad regime’s army and security forces have evacuated Shayrat Military Base in Homs, reportedly heading to Syria’s coastal cities.
Special Forces commander Suhail al-Hassan, known as “The Pink Panther,” was last seen in Homs.

Kurds are taking over areas in North east Syria, which has the Syria Iraq border crossing.
Background: The Kurds and Assad hate the other rebels that are supported by Turkey. Turkey hates the Kurds.

Bloomberg reports that Bashar Al-Assad is making a last-ditch attempt to remain in power, including indirect diplomatic overtures to the US and President-elect Donald Trump
– One offer Assad made to the US via the United Arab Emirates is for Syria to cut all involvement with Iran-backed militant groups, such as Hezbollah, if Western powers wield influence to stem the fighting.
Assad is ordered his army to fall back to defend Damascus, essentially ceding much of the country to rebels.
