Faculty of Medicine and JN Medical College get new Dean and Principal

Aligarh, January 13: Prof. Mohd Habib Raza, Department of Surgery, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed as the Dean, Faculty of Medicine, for the period from January 15 to November 3, the date of his superannuation.

Prof. Raza joined AMU in 1975 and achieved significant academic milestones, including a University Medal for securing first place in the Pre-Medical Examination (1977). He completed his MBBS from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) in 1982, followed by an MS in General Surgery in 1986 and a PhD in Surgery in 2019.

He began his teaching career as a lecturer in surgery in 1988 and also served as chairman of the Department of Surgery. Prof. Raza has also held international teaching and clinical roles.

With over 34 years of teaching experience in India and abroad, Prof. Raza has contributed significantly to academia and clinical practice.

He has published 72 research papers in reputed journals, authored five textbook chapters, and presented 39 papers at national and international conferences. His dedication to mentoring has led to the supervision of 29 theses, with four ongoing.

Prof. Raza has received numerous accolades, including the Young Outstanding Surgical Teacher Award (BHU, 2007), the Eminent Senior Surgical Teacher Award (UPASI, 2019), and the International Best Researcher Award (Trichy, 2024).

A pioneer in establishing laparoscopic surgery and gastrointestinal endoscopy units at AMU in 2004, Prof. Raza is an active member of various scientific bodies, including the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) and the Society of Endo Laparoscopic Surgeons of India (SELSI). He is a member of the editorial board of various international journals.
