HOW STARSHIP’S MECHAZILLA WAS BORN

The idea for catching Starship and gently returning it to the launchpad was borne out of Elon’s dissatisfaction with the design of the landing legs, which added extra weight to the rocket, reducing its payload capacity.

Elon: “Why don’t we try to use the tower to catch it?”

Despite the risk that the booster could crash into the tower, thus delaying future launches, SpaceX is again going to try and make history with the 5th test launch of Starship, possibly as early as Sunday if the FAA grants approval for the launch.
