🚨DENGUE CRISIS IN THE AMERICAS: RECORD CASES AND SURGING DEATH TOLL

Dengue cases in the Americas have reached an alarming 12.6 million suspected cases this year, nearly tripling last year’s total.

The death toll has surged to over 7,700, a staggering 200% increase compared to 2023. Brazil is the hardest hit with over 10 million cases, followed by Argentina with 580,000 and Mexico with more than half a million.

In the Caribbean, Guyana leads with over 41,000 cases, while local transmission has also been reported in California, Florida, and Texas.

Experts link the surge to climate change, which has expanded mosquito habitats, as well as rapid urbanization and poor sanitation.

Vaccines are being introduced in countries like Brazil, Argentina, and Peru, but supplies are limited, and their impact on transmission is expected to be minimal.

Preventive measures remain essential, with PAHO emphasizing, “If there’s no mosquito, there’s no dengue.”
