CAT POOP PARASITE ENGINEERED TO DELIVER BRAIN DRUGS

Researchers have engineered Toxoplasma gondii, a parasite found in cat feces, to deliver therapeutic proteins to the brain, potentially treating neurological disorders.

The parasite’s ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and target neurons was harnessed to deliver proteins like MePC2, associated with Rett syndrome.

While promising, experts caution that more research is needed to ensure safety and efficacy, as the method carries risks, especially in immunocompromised individuals.
