🚨🇲🇽MEXICAN CATHOLIC PRIEST KILLED IN CHIAPAS, MARKING LATEST VIOLENCE IN REGION

Father Marcelo Perez, a Catholic priest and community leader in Chiapas, Mexico, was shot and killed on Sunday after officiating a mass in San Cristobal de las Casas.

Two assailants on a motorcycle approached his car and opened fire. Perez, a vocal advocate against organized crime, had long defended the dignity and rights of Chiapas communities.

His murder adds to the region’s rising violence, with 500 homicides reported from January to August.

Criminal groups have increasingly targeted the area, including involvement in human trafficking.
