BREAKING: IRAN’S FM ABBAS ARAGHCHI:

• We agree on the need to initiate talks between the Syrian government and opposition groups.

• “We had a very productive session with the foreign ministers of Russia and Turkey. Toward the end, Mr. Pedersen, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy, also joined the discussion.”

• “We discussed the critical issues currently unfolding in Syria. All participants shared a consensus on the immediate cessation of hostilities. Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected, and reference should be made to the relevant UN resolution.”

• “Most importantly, political talks between the Syrian government and legitimate opposition groups must commence. This was a key demand of the session, and it was agreed that we would consult with the Syrian government on this matter. Russia also committed to consulting with Syria’s government.”
