Astrophysicist Michael Garrett is making headlines for theorizing aliens might have been on the losing end of an existential problem, and we’re only just coming to terms with powerful AI.

In his paper, he hypothesized the problem could have impeded alien civilizations from evidently exploring a universe with vast habitable resources.

Michael Garrett:

“I estimate the typical longevity of a (fully AI-enabled) technological civilization might be less than 100 years.”
