Anti-Ragging Awareness Initiatives held at Department of Chemistry
Aligarh, December 14: To align with UGC guidelines aimed at eradicating ragging, the Department of Chemistry at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised a series of activities to educate students about the harmful consequences of ragging.

The University Proctor, Prof. Mohd. Wasim Ali, delivered a keynote address as the Chief Guest, elaborating on the psychological and legal repercussions of ragging. Prof. Zeba N. Siddiqui, Chairperson of the Department, announced the formation of an Anti-Ragging Committee to address grievances and ensure a secure and supportive environment for students.

Posters with messages such as “Ragging is a Crime” and “Ragging-Free Campus” were displayed across key areas to amplify the anti-ragging message.

Prof. Riyazuddeen highlighted the enthusiastic participation in an essay writing competition on the theme “Menace of Ragging,” which drew entries from undergraduate and postgraduate students. He also noted that anti-ragging awareness was a significant focus during the 2024 Induction Programme for newly admitted FYUP students.

Dr. Anamika Gupta concluded the event with a vote of thanks, urging students to avoid involvement in ragging and to stand against it, emphasising the long-term trauma it inflicts on victims.

These initiatives reinforced the importance of promoting a respectful, safe, and peaceful academic atmosphere, with participants showcasing creativity and a strong commitment to the theme.
