In a grim reminder of cartel violence, 12 skeletons were uncovered in 11 clandestine graves near the U.S. border in Ascension, Chihuahua.

The remains, now in Ciudad Juarez for forensic analysis, add to Mexico’s haunting tally of 120,000+ missing persons and decades of deadly disappearances.

Chihuahua, a hotspot for drug and migrant smuggling, has recorded nearly 4,000 missing since 1952—grim numbers on a path paved by cartels.
