The CDC’s latest report reveals that 5 Americans contracted an Sexually transmitted infection every minute in 2023, totaling 2.4 million cases.

While STD rates remain high, there’s a “glimmer of hope” as the CDC notes a slight decline, with syphilis cases stabilizing and gonorrhea down 7%.

Chlamydia remains the most reported infection, especially among teens.

The CDC credits awareness efforts and a new “morning after” antibiotic, doxycycline, as tools to help curb the spread. The agency calls for continued investment in prevention to keep this trend going.
