Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has ordered Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib to summon Iran’s chargé d’affaires in Beirut following remarks by Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf.

In an interview with Le Figaro, Ghalibaf stated that Iran is open to negotiating with France for a ceasefire in Lebanon.

Mikati criticized the comments, asserting Lebanon’s sovereignty in such matters and instructing the envoy to convey Lebanon’s official stance.

🚨🇱🇧LEBANON REBUKES IRAN OVER “INTERFERENCE” IN UN RESOLUTION

Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati issued a rare criticism of Iran, condemning Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf’s remarks about negotiating with France to implement UN Resolution 1701 in Lebanon.

Mikati called the comments an attempt to impose control over Lebanon and instructed the foreign minister to summon Iran’s envoy.

Iran has not yet commented, but a source close to Ghalibaf claimed the aim was to support a ceasefire.
