BREAKING: CYCLONE HIDAYA STRIKES TANZANIA

Tropical Cyclone Hidaya has landed near Mafia Island, Tanzania, with strong winds and heavy rain.

The cyclone is moving toward the Kenyan coast, bringing winds over 40 knots and waves reportedly higher than two meters.

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has said that the trend of the typhoon “HIDAYA” shows that it has lost its power to a large extent when it enters land in Mafia Island.

Mamlaka ya Hali ya Hewa Tanzania (TMA) imesema mwenendo wa kimbunga “HIDAYA” unaonesha kuwa kimepoteza nguvu yake kwa kiasi kikubwa wakati kikiingia nchi kavu katika kisiwa cha Mafia.

Aidha, mawingu ya mvua yaliyokuwa yakiambatana na kimbunga hicho yamesambaa katika maeneo ya kusini mwa nchi hususan katika mikoa ya Lindi, Mtwara, Pwani na maeneo jirani na kuweza kusababisha vipindi vya mvua kubwa kwa baadhi ya maeneo.

Kwa mfano kituo cha hali ya hewa cha Kilwa Masoko (Lindi) kimeripoti mvua ya jumla ya kiasi cha milimita 200.8 kwa kipindi cha saa 6 zilizopita ikiwa ni kiwango kikubwa sana ukizingatia kuwa wastani wa mvua kwa mwezi Mei kwa kituo cha Kilwa Masoko ni milimita 96.6 tu.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has reported that Tropical Cyclone Hidaya has made landfall on Tanzania’s coast.

The Kenya Met had previously predicted that Cyclone Hidaya would hit Kenya’s coastal areas.

Kenya Met says it is monitoring the situation in Tanzania’s coastal region.

“Current observations indicate that Tropical Cyclone Hidaya has made landfall on the coast of Tanzania. However, there is another depression developing behind it, which the Department is monitoring closely,” Kenya Met said.

President William Ruto warned of Cyclone Hidaya’s potential impact during his State of the Nation address at State House on Friday, urging coastal residents to exercise caution.
