The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court says a probe of possible crimes by Hamas militants and Israeli forces “is a priority for my office.”
Prosecutor Karim Khan concluded his first visit to Israel and the West Bank on Sunday.
Khan said the Hamas attacks on Oct. 7 “represent some of the most serious international crimes that shock the conscience of humanity.”
He also said any credible allegations of crimes by Israeli forces in Gaza should be investigated in a timely manner. And he said Israel must allow humanitarian aid to reach people in need.
“In Gaza, it is not acceptable — there’s no justification — for doctors to perform operations without light, for children to be operated upon without anesthetics,” he said.
He also noted a “significant increase” in attacks on Palestinians by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, calling them unacceptable.
