Authorities in Guerrero, one of Mexico’s most violent states, discovered 11 bodies—9 men and 2 women, including 2 minors—in Chilpancingo, marking another grim homicide investigation following the recent murder and decapitation of the city’s mayor, Alejandro Arcos.

A citizen’s report of an abandoned van led authorities to the scene. The investigation is underway, with President Claudia Sheinbaum vowing to reduce violent crime through social support initiatives and enhanced intelligence sharing.

Since Sheinbaum took office on October 1, over 2,600 homicides have been reported in Mexico.
