Prof Tasneem Suhail Appointed Chairperson, Department of Hindi, AMU

ALIGARH, April 21: Prof Tasneem Suhail has been appointed Chairperson of the Department of Hindi, Aligarh Muslim University, with effect from April 21, 2025. She will serve in this position until her superannuation on December 5, 2025.

Prof Suhail is an accomplished scholar with decades of teaching and research experience in Hindi literature. She began her academic journey with an M.Phil. from Aligarh Muslim University and a PhD from Agra University, focusing on a comparative study of Hindi and Urdu novels from the era of Prem Chand, titled “Purv Prem Chand Yugeen Hindi-Urdu Ke Upanyas Ka Tulnatmak Adhyan, 1880–1920”.
She has been associated with Aligarh Muslim University since 1988, having taught at Women’s College and later joining the Department of Hindi as a Lecturer in 1997.

A prolific writer and translator, Prof Suhail has authored and translated several books, including a Hindi translation of Sir Syed: Itihaas aur Rajneeti ke Darpan Mein by Dr Shan Mohammad and a collection of stories by Pakistani writer Zahida Hina. She has published over 40 research papers, articles, and short stories in reputed journals and magazines, with significant contributions to topics such as feminist narratives, partition literature, and comparative Hindi-Urdu literary studies. She is the first woman chairperson of the Department of Hindi at AMU.
She has actively participated in numerous national and international seminars and workshops, presenting papers on diverse literary and socio-cultural themes.
