Iran’s Covert Operations in Syria
EXCLUSIVE: Iran’s activities have declined, but it continues to destabilize Syria, particularly along the Latakia-Tartus line, using Assad regime officers and IRGC elements.
An operations room in the SDF/PKK/YPG region coordinates these efforts.
Before Damascus fell, 2,000 regime officers fled to the SDF area and began organizing psychological and physical operations against the new regime, working from Qamishli.
Intelligence indicates this operations room includes four IRGC officers and 20 Arab-Shiite tribal members, previously active south of the Euphrates.
Iran directs these operations, including weapons smuggling to Hezbollah, carried out by former regime officers and Arab-Shiite tribesmen under IRGC guidance. The western hub for these activities is located in Ismaili villages near Homs and Hama.
